Clinical Assessment

BIOFiSICA is currently following over 100 patients in 20+ UK clinic sites, who are enrolled in a 16 week Outcome Assessment Program (OAP). These patients were those who had the most intractable wounds - with an average history of 4 1/2 years using standard of care treatment.

Clinicians have reported over 75% of patients completing treatment have shown improvements within the first 8 weeks of therapy.1

Pain reduction has been a key feature since the initiation of POSiFECT® therapy.

Mr M

Mr M is 77 years old. He has had several venous ulcers to his lower leg in the past. His current ulcer has been present for 18 months despite intensive treatment. POSiFECT® was used by Mr M's clinician in conjunction with his standard treatment of compression bandages. Within 12 weeks of initiating POSiFECT® therapy Mr M's pain had gone. His ulcer had significantly reduced in size and continued to improve. When asked about his treatment, Mr M said that using POSiFECT® had in no way interfered with his normal lifestyle and activities.

Mr M before and after

Mr A

Mr A is a 56 year old gentleman with recurrent ulceration of his right lower leg. He is an insulin dependent diabetic who has had ulceration over a 18 month period. He has had vascular screening and is known not to have any large-vessel arterial disease in his lower limbs. Despite this he has had significant constant pain which he describes as 7 on a scale of one to ten (10 being totally unbearable). Following treatment with POSiFECT® Mr A said his pain levels fell. Within 3 months he had no pain and no longer took any of his previous pain-killers. Spectacularly, his ulcer completely healed within 4 months

Mr E

Mr E is a 73 year old gentleman from a mainly rural area. He has been fit and active for all his life. In recent years he has acted as principle carer for his wife who suffers from Alzheimer's disease. She has become increasingly dependent on him as her condition has deteriorated and he needs to supervise her at all times.

Mr E has a 19 month history of ulceration to his lower leg. This has caused him considerable pain and has limited his mobility. Mr E is known to have type II diabetes which is diet and tablet controlled. His medical condition was investigated and he was found to have an arterial occlusion in his lower limb for which he has had an angioplasty. Despite the use of sustained graduated compression therapy his ulcer has failed to improve.

Mr E before and after

The ulcer causes him considerable distress and interferes with his ability to care for his wife.

At commencement of POSiFECT® therapy Mr E's ulcer measured 7.3 cm2. Initially, Mr E's wound made slow progress, however improvement rapidly accelerated towards the end of his therapy and continued after this point. His pain levels diminished and 12 weeks after commencing therapy he reported he no longer experienced any pain. Sixteen weeks after starting therapy Mr E's ulcer was almost healed.

Mr E stated he was overjoyed at how well his wound had progressed and that being pain-free for the first time in ages has really changed his life. It has meant he can now care for his wife the way he wanted to.

Mr E was so pleased with his results he wanted to make clinicians in the UK more aware of the treatment. Without being asked, he arranged for a friend to look after his wife so he could travel two hours and tell a group of wound care specialists how effective POSiFECT® had been for him.
