Important: These guidelines should be read fully before product is put in service.

• Avoid exposure to direct sunlight.
• Avoid contact with any sharp objects or pointed edges that may tear or puncture pad.
• Action^® products are free of latex and plasticizers.

Risk Assessment

The risk of patients developing pressure related injury due to immobility can be
minimized by the correct use of ACTION Pads in combination with good nursing
practices, like regular repositioning of an immobilized patient. A patientís predisposition to this type of injury is based on many factors including general health, vascular health, existing diabetic condition, age, weight, medication, etc. Consult your physician, physical or occupational therapist or medical advisor for personal risk assessment.
All covers meet the ìIgnitability with Cigaretteî portion of ISO 7176-16:1997 and
California Technical Bulletin 133 (Cal TB133). Only the Economy Style Cover fully meets ISO 7176-16:1997.
The transfer bench pad should NEVER be used in the bath tub, on the bottom or as a pillow. The low shear surface of the pad may cause serious injury from falls.

ACTION Wheelchair Pads

PRIOR TO INITIAL USE

• Remove pad from packaging.
• Fully read this Care and Use Guide.
• Clean pad before initial use. Follow guidelines listed under ìCleaning.

BASIC CARE

• Use and store pads in a flat unfolded position. Larger pads may be stored rolled for greater convenience.
• Do not carry or pick pads up by corners or edges.
• Transport pads in a rolled or draped position. This will prevent stretching or tearing of outer film surface.
• When not in use, pad should be stored in a dry area, out of direct sunlight in a flat, unfolded position. Larger pads may be rolled for greater convenience.
• Store pads away from sharp objects and pointed edges to prevent tears and punctures.

ACTION Bed Pads

PRIOR TO INITIAL USE

• Remove pad from packaging.
• Fully read this Care and Use Guide
• Clean pads before initial use. Follow guidelines listed under Cleaning.

BASIC CARE

• Use and store pads in a rolled or flat, unfolded position.
• Do not carry or pick up pads by corners or edges.
• To transport pads, roll end to end and carry pads as if cradling. This prevents stretching or tearing of outer film surface.
• Recommended that user lie directly on the bed pad for optimum results.
• Perspiring patients should use a 100% cotton, flannel-type sheet that is unstarched.
• Fit sheet loosely over pad. Smooth out all wrinkles or folds in the sheet before use.
• Pads equipped with anchoring hitches should be securely fastened to bed with hook and loop attachments before use.

ACTION Accessories

PRIOR TO INITIAL USE

• Same preparation as for ACTION Wheelchair Pads.

Armrest & Calf Pad Installation
1) Installation by a Qualified Rehab Technician only.
2) Remove calf pads on wheelchair.
3) Align attachment holes on ACTION Calf Pad with existing attachment holes on wheelchair.
4) Install new armrests using existing armrest screws or new screws (not supplied).
5) Make sure armrest attachment is secure before use.
Transfer Bench Pad
1) Rotate pad to position cut-away as needed to expose front corner of bench.
2) Independent transfers must be performed only by those trained and consulted by a therapist or professional.
3) Place hand at cut-away to allow direct contact to surface of transfer bench
eliminating risk of slipping on surface of pad.
4) Close shower curtain, raise outside edge of pad and place directly atop curtain.

BASIC CARE

• See General Product Guidelines.
• Look for cracks in plastic base before use.
• Avoid use and contact Qualified Rehab Technician immediately if armrest is not firmly in place.
• If there are cuts in the film, follow guidelines listed under Repair.
• The transfer bench pad is NOT intended for use in the bottom of bathtub.

Covers

• Do not remove sealed film bags encasing wheelchair cushions that combine foam and Akton® polymer.
• Knit covers are machine washable in cold (50ºF; 19ºC). See cover label for drying instructions.
• Always use caution when removing knit covers from pads. Keep film corners and edges away from the cover zipper.
• Incontinent covers with hook and loop closures are removable and cleanable.
• Wash incontinent covers in warm (103ºF, 40ºC), soapy water or clean with a 1:10 mixed solution of bleach* and water.

ALWAYS THOROUGHLY rinse and dry covers before refitting to pad. This helps
eliminate the possibility of skin irritation due to cleaning solution residue. Incontinent covers should be air or towel dried inside and out before refitting to the pad.

Cleaning

• Carefully remove knit covers before cleaning wheelchair pads. Keep film corners and edges away from the zipper.
• Recommended use of a 1:10 solution of bleach* and water to clean bed or wheelchair pad. May also use any conventional hospital approved topical equipment cleaners and disinfectants that do not contain alcohol.
• Thoroughly clean pad with solution.
• ALWAYS THOROUGHLY rinse pads with clear water before placing user on pad or refitting cover to pad. This helps eliminate the possibility of skin irritation due to cleaning solution residue.
• DO NOT use alcohol to clean pads. It may cause hardening or discoloration of surface.
• Autoclaving and Gas Sterilization NOT recommended.

*Bleach is a 5-10% solution of Sodium Hypochlorite.

Repair

Sumed International (UK) Limited offers the following Repair Kit:

• AO6 Repair Kit.

• Area to be repaired must be clean and dry before applying repair tape.
• Any sticky surface exposed at damaged area may be cleaned with mineral oil.
• Remove mineral oil residue using warm, soapy water. Dry surface completely before applying repair tape.
• Measure damaged area and cut repair tape to size, allowing a 1/4î (0.64 cm) overlap on all sides.
• Carefully remove one half of the repair tape from its brown paper backing.
• Carefully apply the exposed clear repair tape to the damaged area while removing the paper backing as necessary.
• Any air bubbles trapped between the repair tape and pad should be worked out before putting the pad back in service.

WARRANTY INFORMATION

ACTION Wheelchair Pads and Bed Pads are warranted to be free of defective materials and workmanship at the time when first purchased for use and are serviceable for a period of five years provided the product is not subjected to misuse, negligence, accident or abuse.
Shear Smart Pads, lap tray pads, ACTION Armrest and Calf Pads, heel and elbow
protectors and all other products utilizing ACTION Cube Pad technology are warranted free of defective materials and workmanship at the time when first purchased for use and are serviceable for a period of two years provided the product is not subjected to misuse, negligence accident or abuse.

TERMS AND POLICIES

1) All returns require prior authorization before return. Contact Customer Service at Sumed International (UK) Limited.
2) Sumed International (UK) Limited reserves the right to decide whether a cushion is repairable.
3) Sumed International (UK) Limited reserves the right to determine whether or not a product has suffered misuse, negligence or abuse.
4) Product user accepts the full cost of shipping.
**Warranty does not cover accessories or covers that are warranted to be free of
defects in workmanship at the time of initial purchase only.
