About Sumed
Company Vision.
Our Company vision is:
To be a leading supplier of quality branded products and services to healthcare professionals designed for the healing and maintenance of healthy skin.
History.
Sumed International (UK) Limited was established in the 1970's when it developed a range of pressure-area care products for supply to the National Health Service. Since then the Company has consistently innovated and developed its product range to suit the market needs. Over the years it has added a strong brand portfolio and represents some of the most reputable international Companies.
In January 2006, the Company was restructured and it's skills base strengthened. The restructure brought together a collection of people all of whom have worked within the Healthcare Industry at the highest levels.
The revised team has focussed on the Company vision and has developed a strategy for rapid growth, by increasing organic growth, increasing its UK and Irish distribution of appropriate branded products as well as looking for complementary acquisitions.
Product Portfolio.
The original Sumed range consisted of a range of wheelchair cushions and a much heavier bath cushion. These contained a "Flowform" liquid module, designed to redistribute pressure away from pressure points and provide stability and protection against vibration and shock. The Flowform based products are still sold today albeit the range has developed considerably and our continuity of care products add to the holistic approach of client protection.
ROHO® DRY FLOATATION® technology
Named such because ROHO medical cushions and mattresses mimic the properties of water, in a dry, air-fluid environment. This technology has been proven in countless clinical studies to assist in effectively healing, as well as preventing, pressure sores. Roho is one of the best performing products in the world. Its unique technology and Isoflow valving give us a seating product that positions, as well as protects, our clients. Their low air pressure mattressing provides cost effective prevention of pressure sores for use in community and acute care settings. Sumed are proud to work with The Roho Group and have been their distributor since 2002.
TEMPUR® Medical
The TEMPUR® Material is a visco-elastic, temperature sensitive open cell material which has unique pressure relieving qualities. Unlike ordinary polyurethane which features irregular cell shapes that simply compress under weight and degenerate over a short period of time, the TEMPUR® Pressure Relieving Material is composed of billions of visco-elastic spherical shaped, open cells. The cells respond to body temperature and weight then shift and reorganize their position to mould to the exact contours of the patient's body. Tempur is one of the best known brands world-wide and their comprehensive cushion and mattressing range complements perfectly our product portfolio.
Action Products Inc
Action Products Inc range of pressure care products are derived from an ultra-soft synthetic rubber-like material, called Akton® polymer. This unique, shock-absorbing material was invented by the company's founder, Dr. McElroy, in his pursuit to develop padding that would help prevent pressure sores in immobilized patients. Sumed have worked with Action Products Inc since 1993 when it started to import the Ergonest and Primenest cushion range. Action Products Inc now provide us with a full range of polymer based seating, overlay and continuity of care products pressure care products
Viscotech
Our Viscotech range was developed and manufactured in conjunction with Vitacare Ltd - the specialist medical division of Vitafoam Limited, the UK's market leader in cellular polymer technology. Viscotech uses the very latest foam and visco-elastic technology to provide a comprehensive range of low-cost seating and mattressing products.
Xsensor
Xsensor pressure imaging systems are used in numerous medical environments to assist healthcare professionals in measuring dynamic interface pressure between patients and a variety of support surfaces. Specifically, interface pressure imaging sensors provide objective measurement to assist clinicians in understanding how positioning, support surfaces and alterations can impact a patient's circulatory, recovery and well being. Xsensor systems enhance the quality of patient care by providing risk assessment via mapping of support surfaces and can help as part of your protocols to reduce the incidence of pressure sores within the Community or Acute setting. With the costs of healing a pressure sore estimated at £40,000.00 (British Healthcare Trades Association), the investment in one of these systems is very quickly repaid. Accurate assessment of product choice leads to time saving and reduced future healthcare costs.
Fortuna
The Fortuna Heavy Duty Wheelchair range. One of the main features is the option of webbing for the seat and back supports. The seat webbing is adjustable to reduce any slack and can be used to help obtain the optimum seating position. The back support webbing is similarly adjustable and can be used to further help positioning and accommodate the user's shape. As a further aid to user comfort and safety, a removable foot plate is supplied that fits onto and over the standard foot rests. This enables the user to position their feet in a more dignified manner and ensures that the weight bearing is directed to the hanger mounts and not the ends of the footrests. The Fortuna's relevance to skin care is simply that correct positioning is essential in your holistic approach to pressure care and the unique features found in this range enable better care of this aspect of skin care.
Biofisica Posifect
Sumed International (UK) Limited are proud to be the UK distributor for Biofisica's Posifect range wound care products. The management of chronic wounds can be frustrating to patients and wound care specialists alike. The choice of traditional wound care materials like moist wound dressings, antimicrobial dressings or bioactive dressings are useful in acute settings; however, chronic non-healing wounds require more advanced therapies. Electrical Stimulation Therapy has proven to deliver excellent results amongst the increasing number of Advanced Wound Care therapies including negative pressure wound therapy, low level laser therapy, oxygen therapy, ultra-sound and nanotechnology. Bio-Electric Stimulation is generated by low-level electric currents that mimic the body's naturally occurring bio-currents, which have been shown to be absent on non-healing wounds. These bio-currents stimulate the wound healing process. The use of electrical stimulation therapy has been proven to accelerate the healing rate of chronic dermal ulcers. Clinical studies show that electrical stimulation therapy may increases the rate of healing by up to 40% compared to traditional therapies.
