Sumed Hosts Road Shows Nov 2011
Sumed has continued its annual tradition of hosting a series of road shows across the country on pressure area care. Events took place in Cardiff, Lichfield, Shrewsbury, Portsmouth and Berkshire between 21st-25th November.
The events are aimed at Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Rehabilitation Engineers working within Wheelchair Services along with a range of Nursing staff involved in pressure relief management. The events featured presentations from Bart van der Heyden, a Physical Therapist, seating/wheelchair consultant and the Director Training & Education Europe for The ROHO Group. Bart has studied Physical Therapy in Ghent, Belgium and has gained clinical experience in Belgium, Germany and the U.S.A.; where he is a Licensed Physical Therapist. Bart has over 16 years of experience in the Seating and Positioning field.
The interactive sessions featured practical demonstrations on seating and pressure relief with particular focus on postural management. A series of case studies on seating interventions in rehabilitation and improving functionality challenged participants to “think outside the box” during a highly informative and successful week.
The largest road show in Berkshire attracted 130 clinicians from several areas in the Southern region with Occupational Therapists, Tissue Viability Nurses, District Nurses and Physiotherapists being just some of the key Healthcare professionals present at the event.
A huge thanks to Ken Isaac and Bart van der Heyden from Roho for all their hard work and making the week such a success!

News from Medical Technology Group
The medical Technology Group (MTG) is a coalition of patient groups, research charities and medical device manufacturers (www.mtg.org.uk) which works to make technologies available to whoever needs them. The MTG believes that ‘patients and clinicians need better information about medical technologies so they can make informed choices about their medical care.’
The Bulletin below highlights the opinions of Ian Liddell-Grainger that ‘we all want to be able to rely on the NHS for safe, high quality services and support that speed recovery, reduce stress and, where possible, enable patients to resume normal, active lives.’ He goes on to highlight the dangers of ‘low value’ procedures published by the Audit Commission in April of this year. The Bulletin highlights how the stimulation technology with Veinoplus® can maintain mobility and improve patient’s quality of life.

FORTUNA™ WHEELCHAIRS FEATURED IN BBC1 SUPER SIZE AMBULANCE PROGRAMME ON MONDAY 23rd MAY 2011
Super Size Ambulances on BBC1 followed the Thames Ambulance Bariatric Service during their daily duties. Fortuna was one of the Bariatric wheelchairs featured on the program.

Tissue Viability Society
Sumed attended the TVS event on the 5th-6th April at Kettering Conference Centre for the 30th annual conference.
The conference was a well attended event with many key speakers on pressure care and a perfect opportunity to show visitors our superb portfolio. STYLISH STABLE SEATING FOR THE ACTIVE USER!
We are delighted to announce an exciting new cushion from the Sumed® portfolio. PrimeNest® 2, a low profile seating system specifically developed for the more active wheelchair user, offering excellent pressure relieving properties combined with exceptional stability.
PrimeNest® 2 is gently contoured at the front of the cushion to provide additional comfort for the user.
The specific combination of foam used in the production of PrimeNest®2 enables a high degree of envelopment with stability of the hips enhanced further by the shaping of the high quality durable contoured ABS* base. Primenest® 2 also has a top layer of pebbled Akton® gel which assists in the reduction of friction and sheer forces, as well as reducing shock transmission through the frame of the wheelchair.
Primenest® 2 is available in four different sizes, 16" square, 17" square, 18" square and 20" square, the size of the cushion should be selected to cover the maximum seating surface of the appropriate seating area.

VICTORIA UMUNNA JOINS SUMED TO SERVICE THE LONDON AREA
Victoria Umunna is the latest recruit to join the Sumed® sales team, following in the footsteps of Mike Lingwood who started with the Company in October 2010. Victoria will be responsible for looking after sales in the London area.
With a degree in Physiotherapy and Bio-medical Science, Victoria has over six years experience in Sales within the Industry.
